Authorities reported they were notified by a man who noticed a car in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.

Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state early analysis show the substance was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.

Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.

An important official commented the attack made him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
